This summer has been a whirlwind of adventure here in the Maasai Mara. I’ve recently taken on a new chapter in my journey, working with Horses in the Wild as the Safari and Horseback Safari Manager. It’s been a busy, beautiful season (although high season always is) but one filled with unforgettable encounters.
My days have been a rhythm of horseback safaris, walking safaris, e-bike explorations, and big migration journeys across the Mara. Each safari brings something different, whether it’s the thundering herds of wildebeest crossing the river, or the quiet magic of riding alongside giraffes in the golden light of sunrise.
What has made this season truly special are the people I have met along the way. I had the privilege of guiding curious souls and fellow animal lovers who remind me why I do this work. And, of course, I’ve crossed paths with the extraordinary creatures of the Mara: lions watching over their pride, elephants moving gracefully across the plains, and countless smaller wonders that make this ecosystem so alive.
As I look back on this summer, I feel grateful to witness the beauty of the Mara and its inhabitants day after day. I’m looking forward to sharing more of these stories and moments with you all, the dreamers, the explorers, and the nature lovers who keep the wild close to their hearts.
See you on the trail,
John
